Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aurum Nobilis was, at first, one of the more arrogant residents of the caves belonging to the Prophet of Twilight. From the moment his egg was rushed into the safety of the cavern walls, Aurum was pampered and carefully watched over. Because of this, the other hatchlings ignored him and would not play with him. Aurum did not mind at first. He enjoyed the special attention his human caretaker gave to him.

After reaching maturity, Aurum declared himself leader of the Caves of Twilight. Unsurprisingly, the leaders of other various groups ignored him. Though Aurum was a formidable fighter, the other dragons greatly outnumbered him. He soon found himself chased into deeper, less traveled tunnels in the caves. Here he literally ran right into a Shadow Walker as she temporarily slipped out of the shadows. Her name was Airy Flyer, and she was just as surprised to see Aurum as he was to see her.
