Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zyleng takes his surname from the legendary "anti-magic" stone—the Dusk Shard—in the mythos of Dalmasca. He gives his children surnames based on their breed: a sunset hatchling will receive the surname Duskshard, while a sunrise hatchling will receive the surname Dawnshard. He has no idea right now what to call his children of any other breed, and is debating between the surname Midlightshard, or naming the hatchling after its mother. He is very active with his own children and will often encourage them—to the point of nagging, if you asked them—to get their exercise by going out on long or strenuous flights. He doesn't have many close friends outside his family, though he gets along with everyone just fine.
