This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The second to hatch, the first to grow up Laelis is one of the vampire dragons in Moss Clan. Originally there had been three and a red egg but it was given away to a loving home in favor of another vampire egg. This was done as a result of the rumor of deaths to eggs and hatchlings caused by the vampires. Technically Laelis is the oldest of the three female vampires but the rest have grown into powerful adults. What they cannot beat her in is the cuteness of youth and skill at hide-and-seek. She spends her days with the other three frozen hatchlings, all female, all lacking a mother. The young dragon of Halloween yearns to be a mother herself, but whether she were grown or young she would never lay an egg of her own.
