Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling is hard to see, but in the sunlight it displays brilliant colors.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Windchime is a rather sleepy hatchling who seldom gets up and moves. It seems to be too much effort for her. Instead, she spends most of her days draped across a ledge in the cave with her meals' brought to her by other dragons.

Many new dragons are puzzled by the special treatment Windchime receives. They don't see anything that distinguishes her from other Sunsongs; indeed, in appearance, there is nothing out of the ordinary. But when the sun catches her scales, making her scales shine exactly as others of her breed, they find out the reason: Windchime can sing. Not only can she sing—she can really, truly enrapture her audience with her voice. The songs have no words. Instead, she chirps out with sounds rather like her namesake. Each chime blends together in harmony to create lovely sounds.

This is why she is beloved in the cave, and the adult dragons treat her with care.
