Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Nib was one of the first born to the moon fairy eve-naive. She was so excited to find the tiny egg and had kept it warm in her pocket, carrying the fragile treasure everywhere she went. When it finally pushed its tiny nib of a nose out from the curtain of tattered membrane and blinked up at her, instantly she knew the perfect name and cupping it in her hands pecked a kiss onto it's teeny nose. She stared at it as it sat upon her palm and unable to bare the thought of it growing she bewitched it, frozen in time to remain her tiny Nib forever.
