Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn’t true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. These dragons are very violent, and will use their vines to capture, kill, and eat anything that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, their range is limited and they cannot use magic. Dark green dragons tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus are usually surrounded by a large clearing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

It's not easy being a vicious dark green dragon when your mate, Gothic Garden, is the most feared dragon in the grove. Well known to Patch is the brutal lash of his mate doled out in temper. Patch is large for his breed, considered even tempered, at least by his breed's standard, and covered in whip lash scars, all received from Gothic. Patch is revered among the other male dark greens of the grove—they all envy him for his mate. For in dark green dragons, fiery tempers and vicious outbursts are exactly what is looked for in a life partner. Patch knows he is lucky and is deeply devoted to Gothic, but he also knows that no other dragon could handle his feisty mate. Part of their mating ritual, known only to Patch and Gothic, was the besting of Gothic Garden by Veg Patch. He will never speak of it to another dragon, knowing it would deeply hurt Gothic to have her superiority questioned. But they both know, should she ever step too far with Patch in anger, she may not live to regret it.
