Daydream Dragons are the hosts of daydreams and fantasies. They spend the majority of their time sitting on clouds, dropping daydreams down into the minds of people passing by. Humans who live near Daydream Dragons must be especially careful not to let their thoughts wander, or they could end up spending hours or even days in a trance-like waking dream state.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sri Mahamaya knows the effects her gift has on humans (dragons, as a naturally telepathic species, have better shielding), and so she isolates herself from them as much as possible, only allowing selected humans to visit her on a very occasional basis. However, sometimes she has a vision that she feels a particular human needs to see—one which may, for example, give them an insight into how to resolve a difficulty or avoid a danger. Or, sometimes, she is aware of a human undergoing intense mental suffering, whose pain may be eased at least temporarily by some of her sweeter dreams. On those occasions, she will send a messenger to fetch the human in question, or (in dire cases, where the person cannot be moved) will actually visit them, in order to share the appropriate dream. Still, she is careful to keep such sessions short, knowing that humans do not have the mental control needed to resist her.
