Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The night was bitterly cold and a lone figure, black as a shadow, could be seen trudging up a steep mountainside, fighting the blizzard. She tried again and again with her magic to shield herself from the merciless storm, but she couldn't harness the power of the weather, as her magic was more suited to combat. But she was clever and shrewd, and managed to manipulate her magic to prevent her from slipping off the rock path and falling to her death by using magic to keep her grip, a tactic commonly used in fighting. She was, indeed, fighting an enemy—the chilly winter snowstorms. She thought about taking shelter in a cave and sleeping, but she knew she had to get the news out to her superiors. And so she struggled on till dawn, where she at last saw the camp they had made. With great effort, she forced herself to stumble to the leader dragon and give him the parchment she carried. For she was Midnight Messenger, carrier of messages, fighter of storms, and a female black dragon.
