Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Zlyver had always been wary. Not necessarily shy—just cautious. Having been abandoned at "birth" and then passed through many hands before he finally hatched, it was his birth right, really, to be chary. His steps were always light—and thankfully so, for one of his size and weight could easily be squashed—and he was always alert, brilliant azure eyes darting back and forth. Some described him of having an unthinkable aura of paranoia. Not true. He just did not long for the days of knowing that he was in the pile of abandoned eggs, and had no wish to return. But as soon as his most recent owner had cast the Spell of No Aging on him, his worries had dissolved like mist in sunshine. It was strictly forbidden for one that has frozen their hatchling to abandon it; to work a spell of such magnitude and importance was considered a sign of affection by some, and to falsely lead on a young hatchling like such was rude and heart-breaking. But still, his caution remained.
