Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is a deep shade of crimson.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

DarkMountainFriend is a very active Crimson Flare Pygmy Dragon hatchling. He literally bounces off the walls of his cave. He's always in motion, he even sleep walks on occasion. DarkMountainFriend is so hyperactive that he spends a lot of time flying up to the top of his mountain and then dives all the way to the bottom. Sometimes, he actually crashes into things. But DarkMountainFriend is as sturdy as he is energetic, and has never been seriously hurt; just small cuts and scrapes easily treated by the healers in the Clinic of his cave.
