Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

While this cheese dragon has a good heart, he's also not the brightest critter. One day while hanging out with his friends, one of them informed them that he had 'just cut the cheese'--a statement that this one considered nothing short of a murder confession! However, before he could attempt to chase the cannibal off with a fork, he was informed that the statement was not quite what he'd imagined it to be and peace returned to the kitchen at last.
