And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Even though Kenell is part of a large lineage in the clan, he does not like to associate himself too often with his family. He prefers to spend time with some of the lesser known dragons, especially the frozen hatchlings, since he feels that he has much more in common with them. They are playful, caring, and fun-loving like himself. However, from time to time, he will hang out with his sisters, particularly Kannita. Yet, he is frightened by her first mate, Kearn, and therefore, avoids his sister when she is with Kearn.
