Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Red Faceling was found in the forest soon after he was abandoned. A human found him and adopted him. After he hatched, Red Faceling played with the other dragons and hatchlings. He noticed that the grown dragons have to hunt and take care of themselves. He did not want that to happen, since he was not a very good hunter, and so a wish was created. His wish was that he would never grown up. The wish grew and grew, and soon, he was practically dying to be young forever. The human who adopted him granted his wish, and now he always greets the new hatchlings, showing them the wonders of childhood.
