This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Because of this hatchling's frightening undead appearance and the fact that his egg was created on a day said for bad luck, the other young ones try to keep their distance when he's actually awake. Since Thaldarrh is nocturnal, he spends the day either sleeping in his cave with his 'father', Drakon Attor, or lounging under the protective shade of the trees. He is very introverted and has a grim, dark-minded demeanor. He is not evil, though, and will stay out of trouble. The only hatchling who has ever befriended him is Maughfel, a young ember dragon who tries to help him open up. Thaldarrh's name means 'born of dread'.
