Deep Sea Dragons, as their name suggests, spend most of their time in the darkest depths of the sea. They have a bioluminescent dorsal spine that serves to attract prey and communicate with their own kind. As with many deep sea animals, they generally eat whatever they can manage to bait. They rarely leave the ocean floor, surfacing only during breeding season. When they do choose to travel to the shallower depths, they avoid bright lights and will only come up far away from shore.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A shy turtle, especially when compared to his friendlier parents, Kailani almost refuses to leave the deep trenches of his home, dwelling in the darkest parts and even discovering caverns unknown to the rest of his community. He's a curious, little thing, and, yes, I said little. He's rather small for a Deep Sea, not tiny by any means, but small and skinny enough to fit into some pretty tight undersea crevices. He enjoys exploring places unknown to others, it gives him a sense of pride and creativity. Kailani will often disappear into these pockets of darkness and won't reappear for days on end, once he gets hungry and needs to hunt again. His parents never seem that concerned for him. His father, Coel, has a lot of faith in him and praises him for his adventurousness, though even he worries occasionally when Kailani does not reappear after a long time. Kailani does not like social situations. He doesn't care for noise or crowds and prefers to avoid it all. He has never surfaced.
