Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nokta is a night owl, but not in the normal sense. She loves light, and has a nasty habit of staying up 'late' just to catch a glimpse of the land when the sun's glow finally lights up the world. However, because of all Nocturne Dragons'... condition, she cannot explore what she is so desperately curious about.

This plight is not missed by the other dragons- the early-risers are used to seeing Nokta sitting near the entrance, dark gold eyes flicking across the landscape with childish joy and wonder, until the sunlight finally ventures into the cave, and she is forced into sleep.

Some of the kinder dragons- such as the Beancy clan or the Swillians- will sketch out maps of the areas, which are colored by Milly and Vail (who consistently denies it), and then given to Nokta. She treasures these maps, and treats them as delicately as a new hatchling.
