Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Stars sat patiently under a small window the pungent smells from the bakery signaling cookies being baked in the oven. She twitched her tail in excitement, but restrained the urge to pear over. Many hours later, she yawned and decided to take a nap to pass the time until the cookies were put on the window to cool.

Stars jolted awake. The night air writhed around her and the stars were out. In a panic, she leapt to the windowsill. Only to find a stunning absence of cookies. Writhing in disappointment, she rolled onto the ground. Wait, what was that smell Bolting upright, she looked around to find a small plate of cookies on a doorstep. With and excited chirp, the young dragon pounced on the plate. Completely missing the group of chefs laughing in a window across the street.
