Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Orchid Nightmare is one of the few Vampire Dragons to be permitted to live on Dragon Isle. Her and her two siblings were raised by the hatchery staff from tiny hatchlings; Kelasia decided that they could stay, so long as they didn't cause any trouble.

Orchid Nightmare is the most mysterious and cryptic of the Nightmare sisters. She is very withdrawn and  speaks in a foreign language that only the other Vampire Dragons can understand. She often needs one of her sisters to translate for her. She stares a lot, too, unnerving the isle's other dragons.

Orchid loves listening to Locust Rose tell the tales from faraway lands. She seems infatuated with fiction and stories, and is fond of writing her own when she has the time. Like the other two Nightmare sisters, she drinks the blood of small prey animals and eats fruit instead of drinking from dragons.

Though creepy, she is tolerable, and quite the writer.
