Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Protesilaus lacks any defining characteristic about him, at least, as far as his other Flight mates notice. He is the dreamer of the Spartan Flight, which lives in an ocean-facing cave in the territory of the city-state. Being a Stone dragon, he tends to blend into the background very well, and many times the other dragons simply forget he is there. He enjoys reading, when he takes the time to enter someone else's fantasy world other than his own, and especially loves reading the Greek myth of Protesilaus and his wife, Laodamia; particularly since his mate's name is also Laodamia. He is also very receptive, and remembers things others have long forgotten. A few times he has been pressured into becoming a spy or lookout since he blends in so well and can see and remember details that no one else does.
