Hunter dragons are forest dwelling creatures known for having a high success rate of taking down prey. While most commonly seen scouting alone or patrolling in small territorial groups, they live in hierarchical packs of twenty or more individuals. Their most notable attribute is their ability to change the color of their scales to mimic their surroundings. This skill allows them to disappear into their environment, ambushing prey and trespassers alike. Some stories describe a Hunter dragon mimicking a White Dragon. They usually become well-versed in healing and protective magics, using these abilities to ward against illness and heal the more adventurous individuals of their community. The dragon also takes a stance of pacifism, refusing to harm or even hunt, unless left without recourse.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation.
