Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Anaclestus is one of the war orphans on the island nation Tayli. He enjoys the autumn season most when the air becomes foggy at all hours and encloses the multi-colored trees in a misty robe. During this time, he frolics among the fallen leaves and plays by the foggy banks. Otherwise, he stays indoors and continues his studies, sometimes painting pictures of the autumn trees he loves so much.
