Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It glows with some form of arcane energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Apprentice is a youth-charmed Magi hatchling. This charming was actually an accidental event. As Hexus and Copperfield were throwing charms at each other in a magic game, Apprentice wandered between the two of them. Several charms hit the hatchling at once, and what's done is done. Both adults still aren't sure just which charms combined to do this, but in response, both have taken it upon themselves to be the best parents possible to Apprentice.
