Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Faintlight is the only dragon, his owner is sure, to have a maniacal fear of the sky. At night, he happily watches it, though after the first hour, his neck begins to hurt and has to shut his eyes. He does this because after thinking about the stars for even that short amount of time, subconsciously counting them in his head, he begins to wonder what else is out there, and how many stars there are. This happens every night. Poor Faintlight can't tear his eyes from the sky from fascination, yet hates it all at the same time.

During the day, when he's spending time with family and friends and not focusing on what's always above him, he loves helping Zitherre hoard eggs they've gotten with their owner from the Pile and Cave entrance. Faintlight ends up feeling like a dad to all of them, even though most of his owner's dragons are older than him. The funny thing is that Zitherre is the eldest, yet acts like a hatchling around everyone except Leviticus.
