Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very light and enjoys bouncing all around.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

OceanWindBalloon is an odd little Balloon dragon. When he was young he floated into the forest, to look around, and got hopelessly lost. He wandered, getting further and further from his cave. He found himself on an unfamiliar beach, and was blown far out over the water by a swift wind. He might have died out there, had he not been rescued by a Water dragon, OceanJackal. OceanJackal wasn't very friendly, but he couldn't let a hatchling drown. Then a Skywing dragon named WindWalkerWings, a dragon courier, happened by. WindWalkerWings took one look at OceanWindBalloon and knew the hatchling needed some help. Abandoning her task, WindWalkerWings brought OceanWindBalloon to the Clinic of their cave. Since then, OceanWindBalloon spends all his time with WindWalkerWings when they are both in the cave.
