Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Although Pale Hearted maybe only a frozen hatchling, she still acts as if she will one day grow up. This naive and loving girl was once a hatchling without the curse of never aging, and after catching a disease and being frozen to save her life, she became traumatized. She convinced herself that she was still a normal hatchling and that she could one day grow up. The reality has never hit her, so she still has the fantasy of one day growing old enough to mate with a beautiful dragon named Laced Joy. But this will never happen, sadly, and he will only be nothing but her mentor.
