Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has two heads and seems very inquisitive.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

An energetic and highly curious individual, this dragon's mother still remembers the day everything went wrong. Baby was running around, poking her noses into anything and everything and causing much havoc, when her exasperated father suggested she try investigating their family tree if she needed something to pry into. And so it was that the happy little hatchling sat down with a scroll detailing their family's complete past, quickly becoming totally absorbed.

It was, say, thirty seconds later when the first piercing screams rent the air.

"BUT THEY WERE RELATED! THEY WERE RELATED!"

Both parents rushed over to find their daughter rolling about in agony on the floor, and the horrible secret that their ancestors were partially inbred. With much comforting from her parents, the babe has since mostly recovered, although she's still more quiet than before and avoids looking at lineages like the plague.
