Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Inferno is the first of a chain of attempted suicide within her owner's cave. She is scared and frightened by the demonic nature of the cave, and her owner's unwillingness to put an end to the nightmares. As hatchlings, only the fittest survive as they aren't usually raised by their parents, but rather the most capable (as assigned by the cave owner, Aquenee) dragon in the cave of their breed. This is particularly tough on Ice hatchlings that must be raised by the murderer, Vexen, or nebulas that have to be raised under Butterfly Galaxy, who is in a constant death match with two of his fellow performers. Among other things, this has made life very difficult for dragons in Aquenee's cave. Inferno often speaks out about this behavior, but is promptly ignored. She has attempted several times to take her own life to escape the madness, but she has been stopped by several friends and family, who now keep a close watch on her every second of the day.
