Sunsong Amphipteres are an unusual breed. Due to light interference caused by their magical nature, they don’t seem to be affected by any ambient light source. However, when struck by direct sunlight, they shine a brilliant gold. They are playful and ever in flight; their ethereal and mysterious appearance and the fact that they are usually only seen at a distance have led many to believe they are a symbol of hope and good fortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sunsong Amphitheres are usually associated with good luck, and while part of this is mere myth, another part of it is rooted in the truth. Luck-enhancing magic is common among certain lineages of the breed, a trait that leads many people to seek them out--including some very nasty ones. This particular young Sunsong was known for being especially lucky, and it was for that reason that a most cruel witch sought her out, hoping to harvest the dragon's power for her own dark uses. But the amphiptere refused to help anyone so wicked, quickly fleeing from her would-be captor--but not before she was struck with a most potent curse. The dragon whose appearance once brought good fortune to so many now brings nothing but the exact opposite, striking down those who view her with disease and death. Horrified, the once-sociable creature has since withdrawn deep into the jungle, vowing to live in quarantined solitude until she can break the curse.
