Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Sunrise Daystar is one of Phoenix's dragons. She is a warm-hearted, radiant dragon. She is usually the dragon Phoenix chooses to go with her when they go into town to buy necessities, as Sunrise enjoys the socialization more than the other dragons and has made friends with the children in town. Phoenix rarely has a problem protecting her because she has sharp senses, and an acute sense of incoming danger, and of course, like most other dragons of her kind, disappears into the sunlight when need be.
