Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dolengyl is the eldest of her father's daughters and is thus very proud of her lineage, the first born daughter of a mighty Gold Dragon taken from the caves. Deciding to stick with her father's choice of mate, another rare dragon, a Cavern Lurker also from the cave, Dolengyl has chosen Fernathar as her mate. They have already produced a strong son who did his duty, moving to the ownership of another to help spread the might of their race.

Her purpose in choosing Fernathar is so that most of their young will also be Gold Dragons, to help increase their dwindling numbers. She takes Musou's gals very seriously but may also allow Fernathar to populate his own race when his breeding season arrives at Harvest time.
