Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

User Description

This member of The Hatchling Army has a mission! She is here to tell everyone about the naming of dragons:

One day, their human read a poem called 'The Naming Of Cats'. The dragons listened intently, then communicated secretly amongst themselves.

Shortly afterwards they all took on mysterious and haughty airs. They demonstratively stared into space, making little contemplative noises, looking like they really wanted their human to ask what they were thinking about.

With a sigh, she did.

The dragons told her that, just like the cats, they too had secret names, and that they had very, very deep thoughts about them.

Their human sighed again, but then brightened. She suggested that the names printed on the scroll didn't matter much then. The dragons agreed.

Their human suggested she might use scroll names like an inventory list, and the dragons agreed.

After all, the scroll names were not their ineffable, effable, effanineffable, deep and inscrutable, singular names.
