Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

The woodland creatures paused and sniffed the strange object resting against a sturdy tree trunk, a dusting of pine needles atop it. It looked like an egg, sure, but that smell... Not one of the critters had dared to touch the bizarre thing. Their confusion was only heightened further when a human burst through the undergrowth and into the clearing, scooping up the egg as if somebody had left a five-star steak dinner just sitting there. While being quite an odd sort of dragon, Cracking Toast was a happy-go-lucky fellow, beating his small and hole-riddled wings in attempt to fly with the larger (and certainly much more real-looking) dragons. It's certainly a strange spectacle to see a mound of pungent cheese with legs and wings lope around, and if there's one thing he could do, it was turning heads. He made friends, got along with the other dragons his owner had raised, and overall lived a very happy life.
