It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One of the very first dragons a human named Chasilin came to know, was the "Dragon King Hastarius", Hastarius, whom bargained with her with very high stakes. As the long standing king of his surrounding dragons he had many responsibilities, some of which he could not fulfill without outside, human, help. This outside help would become Chasilin and so, under an unvoiced threat of death, for when matching human vs. a dragon, it was clear she couldn't decline his offer.

Hastarius would come to aid the human when she wished and it was through this that their bonds strengthened. It was discovered that Hastarius was wise and gentle despite his massive size and known title. This was a redeeming point to this human's situation. Over time, thanks to the woman's graciousness and understanding, and Hastarius's gentleness and kindhearted patience, this unlikely partnership held no form of hostility and they found they trusted each other with their lives. A bond that Hastarius believes can not break.
