Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Lady Saint-Felicien is acutely uncomfortable with the fact that she is made of cheese. Apparently, she does not regard being made of cheese as a particularly dignified state of being, despite the status cheese commands as a dignified food. Her real reason, of course, is that being made of cheese makes it utterly inappropriate for her to make any dishes with cheese, thereby forever denying her the use of her most beloved cooking ingredient.
