Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In a small, dark clearing two dragons circled each other with pure, violent hatred in their bright green eyes. A snarl erupted from the smaller female, a black female called Lorraine, as she accidentally stepped into a small, prickly bush with her wounded and bleeding left foreleg. Xereth became distracted and she saw her chance. She lept onto Xereth with the agility of a cat. Now the battle would begin in earnest, and one of them would not walk away from this one alive. She landed on Xereth's right shoulder, her legs thrashing wildly as she struggled to dig her claws into her tough scales. She finally found a grip on her wing when Xereth swung her head around and grabbed a hold of Lorraine's exposed neck. She tried to slash at Xereth's eyes with her claws, but it was in vain. With a final, sickening crunch her life was over. Xereth grinned triumphantly as she opened her jaws and let the lifeless dragon fall to the ground. Today, at least, she was victorious.
