Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hermione Tie, the eldest of her three sisters, was a very quiet hatchling, but she grew to become a rebel. Ignoring her parent's pleas to settle down with a Whiptail like herself, she became smitten with one Regulus A Black. After running off together on a "camping trip", the couple were shocked to see that Hermione had procured an egg. In an attempt to hide her crime, Hermione dumped the egg in the Abandoned Cave and wished with all of her heart that it would reach a good home. She then settled down with her parents and insisted that nothing had happened and she simply wanted a break from the pressures of trying to find a mate. Hermione wants a Whiptail to find her within the next century so that they may find the happiness of a large family.
