This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Ottulisa is unlike most vampire dragons, instead of being interested in biting eggs, she is more interested in reading. When she first caught a glimpse of Shredder of Paper and caught a few of the words, she was rather curious about. When she asked Vampire Raptor about it, Vampire Raptor just rebuked her for it and said reading was for losers. Ottulisa then asked Sunset Raptor about it, he encouraged her and from that day forth, she won't give up books for the world.
