Sophrosyne Dragons are a rare sight, typically making themselves known only to protect and heal the vulnerable. A visit from one serves as a reminder that kindness prevails, and that there’s always hope for positive change. While it is known that they possess the power to reverse botched spells, some claim they can even cure methodically-cast curses. This has never been formally documented, but these dragons have been seen arriving in the aftermath of violence, and the scars of tragedy seem to heal faster in their wake. The feathers of a Sophrosyne have thus become a symbol of perseverance and light in the face of darkness.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Breathy and wise, Meldion the Wistful is a solitary dragon, with one major exception. Although he has lived most of his life alone in the Ieter Forest, a secluded set of woods near some active volcanoes, as of recently he travels alongside Rosea'Ver Aurum, a Seasonal Dragon Meldion rescued as a baby. Because of Rosea'Ver's traumatic upbringing and Meldion's highly empathetic nature, they are incredibly close, more so than most adult dragons, so Meldion allows his adopted child to travel alongside him, even though he is fully independent and Meldion likes being alone.

The relationship between the two has positive effects for both. Because of Rosea'Ver, Meldion has no worry over hunters, and because of Meldion, Rosea'Ver is growing wise. The two teach each other new things every day, surprising them both even as the decades tick by.
