Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kotaruk de Bixen loves his father, Vindere, but is very upset that his father doesn't trust his mate, Zaeperyon. Vindere has tried to talk about banning Zaeperyon from the branch, but every time he does, Kotaruk threatens to defect, even though he is very attached to his family and could never actually go through with it. Kotaruk is the heir to the de Bixen branch, since his big brother, Embiruk, defected, and he hopes to make amends with the Dorkface branch when he inherits the de Bixen branch.
