Khusa dragons thrive in dry, desolate, and rocky areas. Though they can fly, Khusa enjoy honing their climbing skills on foot. Shortly after they hatch, parents are already teaching their young how to pick their way across cliff faces, escarpments, and thin ridges. The young are well cared for by their parents, but other Khusa in the area also look out for the young—despite not forming close-knit groups, these dragons form loose alliances with their closest neighbors. If a threat is spotted, they will attack from above and drive it to the ground where Khusa have an advantage.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Buteo takes much after her scatterbrained mother, Buzzard. After having an affair with the promiscuous Punch Polkadot, Buzzard left her child with her brother, Feather, for him to raise while she would continue to travel the world (although she visits about every month to see her.) Though many would find this situation difficult, Buteo seems totally fine with it, seeing Feather as a father to her and treating him as such. Like Buzzard, Buteo has a ton of energy and often acts in an unpredictable manner. However, she isn't near as bad as Buzzard and pulls from a lot of her experience being raised by the more level-headed, kind-hearted Feather. She's extremely friendly, often pouncing on new faces to get to know them better. Couple this with her nosy nature, excessive curiosity, and loud speaking voice, and you have a recipe for one boisterous dragon. Buteo always means well, though, and is always ready to protect those around her. She is a skilled fighter and surprisingly strategic.
