Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gem took a couple of years of from training as a warrior when he was a hatchling to study at Delirium's Academy. At first his parents were shocked but when they found out that Gem was only focusing his studies on battle related magics, they were quickly reassured that their son wasn't all that out of the ordinary.

His most useful spell is neither directly offensive nor defensive though, Gem has learned a temporal spell that allows him small glimpses into the future (about a third of a heartbeat) a gigantic advantage in a direct fight where he can react faster than any of his comrades in the clan's defense force.
