Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Jordis Day Glory is one of the few drakes rescued and nurtured by the wide ranging clan of humans founded by AnselaJonla. His egg was found in the forest and taken to a hatchery to be raised.

Once he matured, he found his lifemate, a Glaucus drake, among the other AnselaJonla drakes. In the tradition of the flock, both drakes were given the same name, Jordis, to pass down to any of their offspring that remained within the flock.

Jordis will chase anything that moves. Leaves, shadows, beams of light shining through the canopy, cats. His most frequent prey is his own tail. He cannot seem to comprehend that it is actually attached to him, and he will turn in circles for hours trying to pin down the elusive quarry.

Unsurprisingly, more intelligent beings find this display rather amusing to behold.
