Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Miss Jo is a tiny white hatchling. Born in the autumn, this small creature was frozen at the urging of the older white dragons. They thought her temperament was too unpredictable and that she might do more harm than good were she allowed to grow to her full size. As a hatchling she only has a limited amount of magical and healing powers which she mostly uses to heal her friend, the zombie hatchling Dead Cute who is always losing one limb or another. Because Jo is so fond of Dead Cute she likes to stay up at night and sleep during the day.
