And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The lastborn of the fading Jade Clan, Prospect was frozen as a hatchling due to some magical accident. To this day, no one knows how it happened--if it was a rogue mage, a rival clan, or simply an unfortunate mishap. It was a terrible blow to the already-struggling Jadeborn; a sudden plague of infertility had left Prospect as their only hope for reproduction. Now, it is only the long lifespan natural to dragons that is keeping the clan alive.
