Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Arkan had just entered the cave to search for Dragon eggs, when he noticed an egg, cruelly abandoned to die. Angered at this treatment, Arkan took the egg in and raised it to adulthood. Kailo was the second egg found by Arkan Dreamwalker, and is his largest Dragon to date. Being nocturnal, Kailo doesn't interact with Arkan's other Dragons much, but this suits her, liking solitude by nature. She seems to know that Arkan rescued her, and thus consents to allow Arkan to ride her, and they soar under the stars together. Arkan has learned more about Dragons Hearts through these flights. Arkan knows that little is known about Nocturnes, and thus takes advantage of this one's trust to learn. When Kailo is immobile during the day, Ah'lahy likes to play around her legs. Arkan is believes being able to study this Dragon during the night will allow him to understand Nocturnes strange immobility during the day.
