Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Requiem, always a perfectionist, is a quiet little hatchling. Her greatest love is music, and she will often spend hours tinkering with little objects she finds lying around in the cave, looking for the reed that makes the mellowest toot, or the stones that create the most pleasing percussive snap. She can spend days perfecting a reed flute, only to throw it away at the first unpleasant sound.
