Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It glows with some form of arcane energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When Valerexia was a hatchling, she just loved being young. She enjoyed playing with her denmates and she was very protective of them. Eventually she decided that she wanted to be frozen, so that she could always be with the hatchlings. Her wish was fulfilled, and she was then appointed to the position of guarding the young ones and given the name Keeper.

Soon after her promotion to the nursery, she assisted the hatching of a balloon dragon, whom she named Ohupalli Armastus. They became very close, and after Ohupalli grew his wings, Keeper had him frozen, for he was missing an eye and wouldn't fare well in adulthood- though secretly, she was also a bit jealous and didn't want him to grow up and leave her behind.

After only a few months of working in the nursery, Valerexia was injured in an accident and had to retire from her job as nursery keeper. She now lives in the frozen hatchling's den with Ohupalli, whom she loves dearly, and seldom leaves his side.
