Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends a lot of time stalking and pouncing playfully on the tails of adult dragons nearby.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Rather the odd one out at family reunions, this tiny hatchling and his father are the only two Coppers in a long and well-respected family line of Shimmerscales and Golden Wyverns. He can often hear his aunts and uncles murmuring that his mother had "poor tastes," but he has yet to realize they're referring to his father; rather, he's gone through life believing his mother tastes food differently from everyone else, and often watches her eat with fascination, wondering what that delicious roast deer tastes like to her.
