Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brightling is a Sunrise dragon, and like most of his kind, rises and shines along with the sun. Energetic and full of purpose, he believes it is his duty to wake up his family members as soon as the sun rises and get them to start off their day with a healthy breakfast and a lot of exercise. His enthusiasm is usually unappreciated by most of the other dragons, a lot of whom like to sleep in late and some of whom are nocturnal. This started off while he was a hatchling, his first victim being his owner, who was constantly woken at the crack of dawn by a very persistent and sharp clawed hatchling. This progressed to the other dragons, some of whom made their intentions clear by a jet of fire or a roar from within their caves when Brighteling approached. However, a few dragons such as Kelarine the Mint, Shiorelinne the Winter and Antharic the Frill go along with him, either because they find his ideas agreeable or they don't want to hurt his feelings.
