Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Duke Mafic has been in the cave for a very long time. He was found by Lance deep in the cave. Lance found him by crawling into an odd looking tunnel. He found Duke Mafic at the other end, sleeping after a large meal of Granite and Marble. Several days later, when he woke up, Lance asked him to come back to the higher parts of the cave, because Stone Dragons were uncommon in the area. On the way back, they found to there dismay that the maze of tunnels had collapsed from a small earthquake. Duke Mafic saved the day by excavating a new pathway to a more stable route. Now, he lives a fairly sedentary life, occasionally digging new tunnels for the cave. His mate is Lady Earthscales.
